I get questioned about this all the time. There are more & more creatives moving their blogs to self-hosted WordPress.org and taking complete control over their content. I’ve been using different hosting services for over 4 years now as a blogger and blog designer. In this post, I’m going to review a few of the web hosting companies I personally tested & give you some pros & cons, so you can decide what fits your needs best.

Bluehost is probably one of the most advertised hosting companies out there, but is it really worth the hype?
Pros:
• It’s affordable
• Easy to set up
• Offers step-by-step tutorials
• 24/7 support
• Free add-ons
Cons:
• Customer service can really take a minute, yet it really depends on the representative that will take upon your request.
My experience:
Overall, Bluehost is the best option if you’re on a budget. I work with Bluehost on a daily bases when completing my customers’ projects and the overall experience is pretty great.
A Small Orange is not your average web hosting company. They don’t believe in offering you “unlimited plans” that actually require costly upgrades in order to meet your expectations and requirements. They believe that you should only pay for the resources that you need which perfectly fits bloggers’ needs.
Pros:
• Pretty affordable
• Easy to navigate dashboard & cPanel
• 24/7 support
• You only pay for what you need
Cons:
• They experienced a pretty terrible downtime this spring and lost a lot of customers due to the slow recovery.
• Customer representatives are not always willing to help
My experience:
I’ve been a customer of A Small Orange for 2 years + before I moved. After a lack of help with my site during its breakdown, I just knew that the time has come for me to switch hosts. I felt like the company was not as helpful as they used to be since they were bought out by a huge corporation a few years ago.
Siteground is a web hosting company founded in 2004 and servicing more than 450,000 domains worldwide. It provides shared hosting, cloud hosting, and dedicated servers. Its hosting services are crafted for top speed, unmatched security, 24/7 fast and expert support.
Pros:
• prices start from only 3,95€ a month
• Easy to navigate dashboard & cPanel
• 24/7 helpful support
• Free WordPress.com to WordPress.org migration services • safe from hackers ( that was the main reason I chose them! )
Cons:
• Can get expensive
My experience: I’ve used Siteground for years, but their performance really changed in the last couple of years.
It’s really up to you to decide which hosting works best for you. Do some research & decide wisely. After all, it’s like building a house for your blog. Make sure it’s economical, warm & most importantly- safe!
